On coping

I've had a bit of a tough semester.
Two of my classes are pretentious, long-winded, and completely inapplicable to my art and life. They're also five hours long. There are classes I like, but not a lot.

So I have a few little tricks to keep myself sane during these five hour long life-wasting classes. They're applicable to other situations as well, of course.

1. Keep your hands busy. I've been churning out squares for my granny square blanket like crazy in my dull form study class.

So, even if the class is a five hour critique in which the teacher goes on a wild tangent and every single member of the class says what every single piece reminds them of from their childhood, I can still feel like I've accomplished something.

It wasn't a five hour waste of time, see, it was a good crochet session with some unfortunate accompaniment!
A beautiful product of frustration and anger!
2. Tuck a well-loved book into purse. Use as safety blanket. Read a few lines whenever you can sneak them! Find comfort in the well-read lines, the rise and fall of the familiar storyline, the soothing voice of your favorite author.

My go-to comfort books are Good Omens, any of the Harry Potters, and Memoirs of a Geisha.

3. Bring phone. Talk to friends. Maintain sanity through whining to them

4. Bring a nice hot thermos of tea with you. Sip. Inhale warmth. Taste the calm sweetness.

5. Take extended walks to the bathroom. Preferably the bathroom on a different floor, in a different building. Enjoy the walk.

HOUSE PORN - A GRAND OLD HOUSE

I'm dreaming of a grand old house with quite the story to tell.

COLLEGICAL THINGS - SPRINGIFIED

I am really really REALLY sick of winter and I wanted to spruce up my dorm a little bit to make it feel a little springier. Maybe then mother nature will follow suit?

Bamboo shoot that is currently being housed in a Japanese soda bottle.

CD cases that I get en masse from my office job + hot glue = easy little organizing shelves!! They help add a little color.

Cute little fuzzy succulent plant!
Got the urge to do a little gardening. Hopefully these will someday be chamomile, mint, and poppy.

I call this baby the scrapeater. All my leftover yarn goes into it! I crochet the granny squares while watching Netflix or during a long critique in class.

BLACK + WHITE - OUTFIT POST

Black lace = my kyrptonite.
It's finally getting warm enough out I can stop wearing my giant wool overcoat and wear something a little lighter!
Funkay tights, funkay tights.
Dress - F21.
Coat, tights shoes- ?

LA VIE BOSTONIAN - THE MFA

A picture of a statue currently in the process of restoration. Hopefully sometime soon she'll have a face!

Big ol' glass thingy that goes all the way up to the roof. Is it by Cihuly? I think it might be.
Greek sculpture... man, that's some nose this guy's got.

And this guy has no nose at all. The other sculpture should give him a nose transplant.

ANOTHER ETSY WISHLIST

Less FASHIN in this post. More random stuff that I'm mentally filling my future dream home with.

Dos-à-dos - double journal rustic wood book - birch bark - woodland brown - unique gift - made to order
Why do I want a double-sided book? I don't really know, but I want it.

Kids room // playroom // Turquoise Floating Honeycomb Shelves: Set of 3
Yesterday I made shelves out of hot glue and old cd cases. Easy, and sort of colorful, but I really wish I had some cute little modular shelves like these.

So beautiful and natural. And also something I could probably figure out how to make myself? It's a box with some birch branches, basically.

LA VIE BOSTONIAN - CAMBRIDGE ANTIQUE MARKET

I went with my form study class to this beautiful little anitques shop in Cambridge.

This antique necklace is the fanciest damn thing I've ever seen. The only thing more breathtaking than the diamonds and pearls was the price tag.

Pretty sure this one was a perfume bottle.

These lovely chestnut leather boots with strangely thin ankles. Seriously, who has ankles that small? Were skinny ankles a thing? Were the boots supposed to make them look skinner?

Little Blue Bhudda

A lovely little replica of the famous Venus de Milo statue

If you care to peruse this little heaven of old posters and little statues and vintage tools, take the Green Line's E train all the way to Lechmere. The sign for the market is visible from the station!
